Hi Blair, Welcome to the Forum the best one I have seen so far. There is so much to do in the DR. Where did you book your stay? There are so many great resorts. You will have to let us know what you and your family are interested in and perhaps we can give you some ideas of what to see and do while you are in the DR. WELCOME! Kristine

Hey Thanks for the welcome Colleen and CopperSun. We are staying at the Holiday Village. We are intested in beach, sun and ocean sports like scuba diving and snorkeling. I am a certified scuba diver(although I have not been in the water in some time!)and my kids are doing a Discover Scuba Diving course this coming weekend. My wife has snorkelled with me a couple of times and she in interested in doing more.
My wife and I were in Sosua for a day, about 10 years ago, and we loved it! The only mistake that we made was that we left our visit for the last day of our 7-day holiday. This coming year we are going for 14 days and I'm geting lots of tips from people like you on what do while we are there.
My wife has asked me to check to see if there is a location where the kids can swim with dolphins near POP. I am not a big fan of supporting animals in captivity but I have read that it is a very exciting and memorable activity for the kids.
I have checked out the Ocean World web site and see that it is offered there. It's pricey are well, it would be a expensive day for us there that's for sure!!
Keep in touch, Blair

Hola Blair, How old are your children?? We have been taking our son to Sosua for 4 years now. He is just turning 9. The beach is perfect for him. Cabarette is much wilder. While everyone has thier favorite beach spot we have always been happy in the middle of the bay at the lifeguard shack. It is now painted green with a Presidente logo. It is the only one on the beach. The swimming area is nice and it is right in front of the reef. So when you snorkel you can use it as your land mark and know just where you are located. Sandro and Antonio will look after everything you need. The reef is close enough for our son to swim to and it is nice to be able to get up when ever you want and wade in for a look and leave your chair and stuff right where it is and walk right back out to your spot. I do not know of any other venue besides Ocean World for the dolphin business. As it is very pricey we have always chosen other ways to spend our money but I think next trip we may splurge for the day at ocean world as it suppose awesome! Maybe not he dolphin encounter but just the day at the park(a little less pricey). There are many tours and things to do. Linda at Mels Tours can help with all oyur needs She is fabulous. Again depending on the age of your children somethings are better than others. You will have a Blast no matter what you choose to do with your time.

Hi Robyne2000
My Son is 11 and my Daughter is 8. Both love sun, water and sand so I think that they'll love Sosua! Have you been to the other beach in Sosua that is located by the two all inclusive resorts? I'm wondering if the reef comes close to shore there as well?

Do you mean Casa Marina Reff and Beach. There is a new beach there but you need to be in Casa Marina or Waterfront to get at it. Just past Caas Marina you can go thru a old abandon resort to get to the General's Beach where three rocks is located again surf dependent. That section of the beach and Casa Marina beach is much wilder that Sosua Bay. Again sitting by the lifeguard shack as a rfrence point is perfect. If two of you go one wat for a walk or shopping or go snorkelling you will always know your hombase. Where are oyu staying> Robyne

Well Colleen has been talking about this forum, so I had to join in on the fun.
I'm Brooke and you can find me on either side of Checkpoint Bar. The proud mistress of the fudgepacker...the drink...and will be glad to blend one up for anyone who is interested!

Welcome Brooke, and have fun here!
Robyne and Blair: The Beach I was referring to that is more private, is not the one down the Waterfront Street, it is on the other side of the Casa Marina Beach entrance past Sosua By The Sea and accessible through the old Larimar resort which is currently closed. AKA THREE ROCKS or The General's Beach. It's straight down our street, but lacking in shade so we have a sun shelter and beach umbrella. You can pack up for the day and bring a cooler with lunch and drinks, and snorkel to your hearts content without being riddles with vendors!

FYI- a Fudgepacker is our latest drink that we serve at Checkpoint! It is a delightful combination of creamy Chocolate Rum, A frozen Fudgesicle ice cream bar, ice and blended thick and smooth in the blender with a drizzle of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup on top! Need I tell you that it is to DIE FOR! Most people get a laugh out of the name, and for some reason, men are very uncomfortable asking for it!!! Add a hit of Vanilla Vodka to spruce it up!
Nowm Spankster, to your proposition...whatever drink we concoct for your namesake, will definitely HAVE to be red, a) for how red your face gets when we tease you and b) for how red your bottom is when you finally get that well deserved SPANKING!!!
I am dying laughing writing this....I KILL ME!!!
Are any of you having as much fun as me on this forum???

Fun, fun, fun all the way. Often at my expense but I've got broad shoulders [metaphorically speaking of course] The drink needs to be really, really red to match the colour of my face but only light in strength, to match the mild spanking.
