Hi Trudy, Ken, Andrew and Simon:
Coppersun is the expert on Casa Marina and she usually checks the forum every day.
In reference to Mel Tours, it is my understanding that Linda is still there at the location beside Checkpoint.
In referrence to Checkpoint, a lot has changed in the last 6 months and Checkpoint is no longer the same place it was before. If you check the earlier comments on the forum you will see what I mean as it is definitely not the same, not even close.
Glad to see that people that have been to Sosua before are returning as I am also a fan of Sosua and have spent a lot of time there.
Hope you have a great vacation there and as usual when someone else has the opportunity to go, and I do not, I am envious.
Have a great trip.

Hi Oliver Family, Am so glad you are going back for a holiday to the DR, it truly is a good holiday spot. We have stayed at the Casa Marina for years and really enjoy the resort. Usually in October it is very humid and slightly more wet than other times of the year. However having said that last year was not raiiny at all. so it is anyones guess as to what the weather will do. I do know that they have been hit by tropical storms this year. Both of the bad ones have pelted the area with lots of rain etc. No real damage but lots of rain. If it was me that was going in October I would take down that same type of clothing as I would in Feb. however I would include a light jacket for evening and definately an umbrella. Linda is still working at Mel's however there have been some changes at the Checkpoint Bar and Grill. Colleen is no longer any part of that bar, nor is Spanky. Thiings have gone to hell in a hand basket for the checkpoint and infact some shady dealing that Peter- th owner pulled off, we no longer consider the Checkpoint a place that I will stop at. I can't condone what he did so will not give them my business however you must do what you wish. You might want to read the thread "end of an era". Have a wonderful time! coppersun
