Hi everyone!
Well- where to begin?
Three weeks in Canada, one heckuva lot of miles put on...here was my itinerary:
Spent the first night at Mom's in Oliver- she picked me up from the airprot and we stopped at the Casino in Penticton to play the slots for fun- within 15 minutes I had won $213 on a nickel machine and promptly hit CASH OUT, and said to Mom- "Lets get outta here!"...we then went to A & W for a HUGE mug of Root Beer (Can't get it here- PLEASE remember that when you come to visit and pop a can or two in your suitcase- I miss it BADLY!)
and a Teen Burger. A great start to my holiday!
The next day Shawn and Ashley (Bro and Sis in Law) came to get me to stay a few days in Kelowna. The weather was beautiful but cool the first few days.....PERFECT shopping weather!
We had a bonfire, and I got reacquainted with Ashley's parents who were visiting and I had not seen since their wedding 5 years ago.
Lots of Okanagan Wine and Cider went down in those first few days! visiting Shawn and Ash was great- we had lots of time to visit as they took holidays while I was there, so we ate out, had some nice mels and did lots of catching up.
Robyne flew into Kelowna for Girls weekend at Mom's on Thursday so Friday Shawn drove us to Oliver. It is such an amazing drive and you pass at least 4 lakes to get there- Lake Okanagan, Skaha, Vaseaux and Tuc-El-Nuit. Pretty scenery and the fruit trees bursting with fruit!
Also lots of new wineries popping up and lots of new Vinyards.
Shawn and I visited with Mom and Robyne for a while and then drove on to Osoyoos to visit my Grandpa Madge (Dad's Dad), our last survuvung grandparent who, I believe just turned 94! He is charming and I love him and miss him so it was an awesome and heart warming reunion. We also saw several of our Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
Shawn dropped me back off in Oliver and Girls weekend began.
That night it was Robyne and me and Mom, and Madeline (my darling daughter) and Bev who drove from Vancouver together. We had a blast getting ready for Saturday- the "main event"!
Mom lives on the lake in Oliver so there were floaties to blow, much food to prepare and such, all the while keeping the blender operating and making sure no one went "dry" !
Saturday, the other girls began to arrive. Ashley and her Mom, Janet came down from Kelowna. Cindy, my oldest school friend from Oliver came with her friend Corky, Aunt Vikki and Lonnie who were in Osoyoos visiting came as well. Cousins Tami and Sheri livened up the crowd with their arrival (look out when the three of us are together!!!). Gail, an old family friend and Deb, who used to work with Mom joined in. You have never heard so much laughter or seen so much FOOD!
I have taken some pictures and will add to the website as soon as I can find my cord! (just moved three days before I left for Canada)...
Anyway, I brought Amber beaded necklaces for everyone and made a fridge magnet with "What Girl's Weekend Means To Me" , using the letters A-M-B-E-R B-E-A-D-S as a guide- I will share that another time. Mom made "I SURVIVED GIRL'S WEEKEND- TUTRLE BEACH 2006" Logos and we all brought T-shirts to transfer them to. Madeline and I did the ironing on- and all togther I think there were 17 of us! We told stories, shared pictures and floated in the lake to our heart's content. It was the biggest girls day yet and amazing!
11 of 17 ladies slept at Mom's that night!
Sunday we had Omlettes that Madeline made- a new recipe which I will HAVE to share here- Omlette's in a BAG! Seriously, you put the ingredients into Zip Locks and boil the suckers! They were amazing and fluffy!
Perfect thing to do as opposed to our usual Omlette Bar- WE ALL GOT TO EAT TOGETHER- WITH Madeline!
After everyine said goodbye, the 5 of us remaining- Mom, Madeline, Bev Robyne and I, drank ourselves silly on wine and cider and sat to play Go F*CK Yourself. A harsh name, but a hilarious game- you have to answer a question A or B and everyone else has to guess what you ansewred! If you guess wrong, you drink! If everyone guesses right- the one who answered the question drinks. It was a HOOT!
Monday we all drove to Vancouver to meet up with other friends, but guess what???
I have to stop now...grocery shopping for dinner tonight.
I will continue this later or tomorrow- two more weeks to tell!
Stay tuned!
Colleen
