On Friday night I had the pleasure of speaking to a woman named Anita who is part of my group that will be traveling to DR in February. She is very excited about the trip and all I could do was go on and on about the "kids" and how I want to make sure we help them out.
Well, she is an educator and "teaches teachers" and has access to many, many books. I know books there are preferred in Spanish - but would English books be needed as well? We are going to work together with our group to bring down a few nice loads for the children.
Please let me know what you think about the American Books - are there other items that the teachers NEED?
I have seen LISTS of items that children, teachers and adults could use - is there a separate thread for that?

Thanks for starting the Teachers Supplies thread and hope we get some responses there. I have red somewhere the the American Books would be okay to bring and we will split them among Sousa Kids and Mustard Seed. We plant to drop off our donations to you at Checkpoint. Also I am trying to organize my group of 24 people to each bring 1-2 items in each bag that we can add to what I will be bringing. I will also solicit some cash donations if I can that we can give to you to help pay for uniforms and books. I am also going to get some cash donations from friends and family (many of them members of the Elks) and they love to help youth and seniors alike. I will do what I can do and hope to see some replies on what the TEACHERS need as 3 of my good friends are teachers and could probably donate a couple items (chalkboard erasors etc?)

Staplers, rulers, compass sets, staples, 3 hole punches, calculators, Chalk and Chalk board erasers, art supplies- ie: paint sets, plastercine etc. Stickers, highlighters, tape and tape dipensors, glue and anything else you can think of that a teacher could use!
