Hi everyone! On Sunday, Rubi 92.5 FM held an impromptu "Plaza Party". We helped host the event and served BBQ Hamburgers and Hot Dogs with proceeds from the food sales going to Sosua Kids, as well as a 50/50 Draw to benefit as well. We are happy to say that for an event thrown hastily together, last minute, we raised over 4,000 Pesos in about three hours! Thanks to all that were there to support us- it was a really fun day!!!

Colleen, Any chance of a fund-raiser going on while we are there? Had an open house here over the week-end and have a raffle going. We will be stopping by Checkpoint on the 24th of Jan. and look forward to meeting you. Have some supplies for Sousa Kids. Please e-mail or PM me via Debbies DTF.
See you soon, Cat

oops was going to add, is it possible to adopt a class, this is a project done in other areas, lately we have been helping some folks in Phuket, Thailand. Long story but in a nut shell, a fellow Canadian who lives there, helped us find my brother after the Tsunami. He is find, thank god, but was a horrible 14 days while until they found him. He also lives there. So everything turned out great for our family. What we did for the chap who helped us look was donate for the kids. Is that possible in the Dominican? Thanks

Heh Colleen,
That is a brilliant idea from Coppersun! Would you please let us know if it is possible? I am currently working at an elementary school so that would be a great achievement and make fund-raising and awareness more visible. Way to think Coppersun!
Also, appreciate any info you can send Colleen on Sousa school kids. Hoping Karen will give me a call when she is up here in "Greyland". Like to be a bit more active with the Sousa Kids organization. Not home tonight so will e-mail her in the next day or two. Hugs to all! Cat

;D My hubby actually came up with this neat idea!
We are hosting a garage sale today and tomorrow, some of our friends are joining in with items for this sale, as well as our kids. We decided as a group that the proceeds for this will be given to Sosua Kids. so wish us luck, we haven't done a garage sale for ages!! My granddaughters think its so cool and we have made a story board with the pictures we have taken over the year. We have advertised it and actually our local press caught wind of it. and did a story on this. I was overwhelmed!
so its garage sale for me this weekend. Hope it doesn't rain!!!
By the by, our Zellars folks donated a brand new bike for the sale, I could not beleive it when he showed up last night with the bike. Way to go ZELLARS!!!!!!!!!

Hi all, Well I am not really sure garage sales are my bag, HOWEVER... we raised $300.00. We are extending the sale for this week on Thursday and Friday, as we got rained out on Saturday. Lots of "good deals" left, we had lots of interest in Sosua kids and people were really pleased to see that the proceeds were going to a cause. I will let you know how it finishes up! copper

Also folks are wanting to know about Sosua Kids supplies: I found this list on an old blog of Colleens when they were making up backpack kits, but it gives you an idea of what can be used, of course if you don't want to pack this stuff along, perhaps bring a few extra bucks and leave the cash with Colleen and Mark, as the money can be used to get the things that are needed. But here is the old list just in case:
Back pack items:
25 pencils erasers pencil sharpener 10 pens (blue or black) red pen glue OR glue sticks a highlighter Binder or duotangs with package of 200 looseleaf sheets OR 8 notebooks (the ones with about 50 pages in them) OR coil notebooks with subject dividers- ie: 300-500 sheets- your choice ruler package of crayons either a set of felt pens OR pencil crayons. The following can be added if you choose...
calculator (optional) pad of construction paper (optional) paint set (optional) stickers (optional) Anything cool you can think of for a varity of ages- small toy, hair clips and elastics for girls, baseball stickers for the boys, etc....
