Hi guys has anyone been on the Tropical sun jeep safari with mel tours ? If so could you let me know your views on it places you visit etc etc thanks

Not sure if you are talking about the same jeep safari from Mel's Tours that we went on last February, but it was a blast. The guide's name was 'Elvis" and he was fantastic. We visited quite a few spots that day: where they make coffee, small town, had a excellent lunch and then hit the falls. It is about a 25 minute walk to the falls, but well worth it. There was my other half, my son and his wife. I chickened out when it came to climbing the falls but the rest of my family did. They had a great time. They video tape your experience and it is well worth the money to buy the DVD and it is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. The price is very reasonable (if I remember correctly it was about $35 US) and we found Linda at Mel's Tours a pleasure to deal with.

First of all welcome to the Forum. It is a great place to keep in touch with people and find out things about the DR. It will be our 6th trip to the Puerto Plata area in February 2008 and our 4th to Sosua itself since 2004. You will find the people very friendly and we always have a great time. We have made some good friends in the Dominican both Canadian and Dominican. My son got married there in February 2006 and liked it so much, that he and wife came back with us this past February 2007.

Also, if you get a chance, check out the Liquidation Store in Cabarete (about 20 minutes from Sosua). You can buy little tinkets to bring home for family and friends at a really good price.

WOW Lois, thanks, you know for as many times as we have been to the DR we usually don't go to Carbarete. I will have to drag the hubby for a day and check this out. Thanks for the info. ;D

Hi Kristine:

We will be staying in Cabarete our first week and so will probably visit the Liquidation store. It is only open certain days of the week so you might want to check it out before you head there. There is also a restaurant/bar called Jose O'Shay's that is a good place to stop for a nice cool drink. Cabarete also has quite a few interesting shops to visit.

I know they have free shuttles to Cabarete from where we stay in Sosua, so Casa Marina probably does too. It not, it is only about $10 US to take a cab.

I was surprised that you hadn't visited Cabarete yet, but it will be something new for you to see this trip. Sosua is still my favourite as Cabarete is a bit busier.

Thanks for the info, we had been to Cabarete a number of years back but only stayed a short day. Not to much was happening at that time. and since we were staying way down at the Lifestyle vitalis resort this was a treat for us. We will certainly go there this year. Thanks
