Hey guys!
our trip is slowly approaching. 29 days woowoo!
I was wondering how the shopping was? We are in Cabarete, is the shopping good enough there to not go into Sosua or Puerto Plata?
Im more interested in jewelry, not sure what the others want?
any tips, suggestions, comments, concerns, are GREATLY APPREACIATED! ;D

Hi Kristyn, If it is silver jewellery that you are interested in, then do I have the place for you. In Sosua just down a block from the Checkpoint bar there is a little silver shop, the guy is Scottish or Irish, and hand makes all his jewellery, we bought some of his last time and it is incredible! Reasonably priced and it has been a year since we bought and no problems with it. We bought some amber as well. GREAT STUFF. Hope you check him out! Also, check out the beach shops at Sosua, you haven't shopped until you have been there. Kristine

The fellow's name is Patrick, and it's a great shop. Not only is his jewelry great, he's constantly getting new pieces of loose amber. In addition to me and the wife getting a couple of beautiful rings and a pendant I picked up two pieces of amber, one with a fly inside and one with a spider. And yes, he makes all his own stuff. When you buy something there, it's one of a kind! Oh yeah, him and his wife are really nice people. I think he's English, via S. Africa.

What would his price ranges be? Just for budgeting reasons Im trying to figure out how much I need. So far Im thinking $500. $250, for excursions, tips. airport fees (the $20 and the overweight baggage. I know i will be over haha)

Hi Kristyn! Patrick's Silversmith has affordable jewellery that is designed on premises and made with our local gemstones, Amber and larimar. Larimar is like Dominican "Jade"- it is blue and hard and beautiful...comes in many variations. Our Amber of course is around 24,000,000 years old and boasts lots of neat things inside such as plant life and bugs'n'stuff. You always know what you're getting there is REAL- do not buy this stuff on the beach- get it where you know it isn't fake!!! Earrings start at around 15.00 rings start at around 20.00 and up. He sells gold jewellery as well. As far as budget goes, it depends how many tours and how much shopping you partake in! 500.00 should do it, though. We also have lots of bank machines, so if you're short you can always grab a few more $$$ in a pinch.
