Well, we are back, caught up on our sleep and back to the drizzle of Vancouver Island.
We had a great trip. We split two weeks between the Bahia Principe near Rio San Juan and the Iberostar in Puerto Plata. Both are very nice hotels but we preferred the Bahia because it was a little more laid back and we found the people to be friendlier. The Iberostar had a large percentage of Germans. The food at both was great (giving the edge to the Iberostar) The beach at the Bahia was huge with about 4000 ft of shoreline. At the Iberostar the beach was only about 400 ft and it was loaded with seaweed. 4 men spent the whole day everyday removing it with a pick-up and still could not keep up with it.
The big event was our visit to Sosua where we met Colleen and Mark. Had a ball joking back and forth and met lots of their local and ex-pat friends. Mark made sure that we did not leave thirsty and it was a very nice day. Met the guys from RUBI 92.5 FM who are just down from the Checkpoint.
With Colleens advice we went to a local jeweler and Cyndy got a real nice bracelet and earing set in Amber. This cost more than the whole trip.
Anyway it was a worthwhile 2 week trip.
By the way, people that we travelled both ways with showed us a picture that they took at their hotel Breezes (which is just on the outskirts of Sosua) of a fist sized spider which was on the bedroom wall. The lady said that she spent the last 4 nights sleepless. She fell asleep on the plane before we left Puerto Plata and slept all the way back to Vancouver (10 hours)
We will return.
