Ok heres the thing, Alf and I usually travel during the winter months, however, we are very much looking at retiring to the DR. So we thought we should see things in the summer months. We have heard it is really hot during the summer months, but what about the rains etc. Also do some of the places close for the summer months> like in Thailand right now many of the resorts are closed for the low season. If anyone has travelled to the DR in off season could you let me know how things are. Right now we can get a week all inclusive at the Casa Marina Reef for $538.00. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We were there in August of 2000 and it was HOT and HUMID. It is the reason I can't get my husband to return. It rained a little bit every day and every night for the whole week we were there but we didn't let it dampen our spirits. We also went through a hurricane scare where everything was boarded up and tied down and an evacuation plan was in place. I personally would not return at that time of year again no matter what the price, the weather is more bearable here at home.

Hey Copper! OK- last summer it was HOT in August, as always- but no rain- I was in Canada but Marky confirmed that there was little rain to speak of...Casa Marina does have Air Conditioning, and that sounds like a heckuva deal...how do you handle heat??? We'd love to see you so soon!!! Colleen

Hi and hugs, Thanks for the info, as far as heat goes, the hotter the better, one of the main reasons we switched years ago to the DR is that Mexico and Hawaii just were not hot enough for us. The year we went to Thailand it was good but we find that the heat is wonderful in the DR. Personnally I like to walk out in the morning and find the searing hot heat. New project eh, well now, can hardly wait to hear all about it. Will watch with anticipation!!! and yepper, looks like another trip in August! can hardly wait, this time we want to take you and Mark out for supper. Lots of questions to ask regarding living there. We are so excited about our retirement now! kristine
