Hi all, Ok I know this is a little premature as of yet, but heres an idea for the future, maybe as soon as next year! I am a member of many forums and I also chat online. Through those boards and chats, I have taken part in many chat meets. they have turned out really well and I have met so many wonderful people. People from all over the world, Tazmania, USA, England, Scotland, austrailia, New Zealand,France etc. and I still go down to Myrtle Beach to see my "chat sisters" once a year, the fellowship and friendships have been wonderful. I am thinking that perhaps next year we could plan a Checkpoint reunion/meet and use it as a fundraiser for the kids.or something along that line. All who wished to attend could make their own travel arrangements etc as per usual, however if we could attempt to be there the same time it would be great. also if Colleen and Mark would consent to host a forum night at their bar we could raise some big bucks for the kids. Like I said this is a little premature but I know we start looking for the deals after we return home, and I know once you have been to the DR you want to go again. So gang, what do you think? Coppersun ;D

Hi all, Well am sitting here looking out at the snow, and man did we get lots of the white stuff since we have been back. My hubby and I are already looking forward to our return in 2007, I spoke with our travel agent yesterday regarding a meet. She was really interested in setting something up. Right now she is going to do some research for us regarding a charter and she will also see if there is some type of price break for a large group. What I need from everyone is some ideas of resorts that people would like to go to. I suggested the Breezes as it is not far from Sosuaand they still have the free shuttle service to the Checkpoint. What she will do when or if we get a consensus is approach the companies who deal with the Breezesto see if we can get a good discount. If we have a show of interest she will continue to research this and make some calls on our behalf. The new prices are not usually out till august but if we can get something going now they would consider the group thing. The thing right now is to get a show of hands from all those who might be interested in the month of February for a chat meet. So if you could think about it for the next few weeks and see if this would be something you are interested in and reply to this site. Take care all coppersun We met so many wonderful people on here and actually met a couple in person when we were over there. Take care all and let me know if this would fit into anyones plans.

I think your idea of a reunion of Sosua fans from everywhere is terrific. I can see it now. Dozens of people around the bar at the Checkpoint quaffing Presidentes, driving whoever is behind the bar crazy, music from the radio station blaring,Haitian boys selling their eggs, Linda selling tours and lots of cash going towards Sosua Kids. I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it. Keep the thought. Does anyone else have thoughts on this? Jan. or Feb. would be ideal.

Thanks for the reply, you know folks even if the charter thing doesn't work out, perhaps we can plan for a huge meet and greet at the Check point for anyone who happens to be in the area at that time. This is a hell of a time to do the fund raiser for Sosua Kids! am thinking of getting some sponsors involved in my local city. I know that lots of them have asked what Sosua kids is all about. I have directed them to the Beyond the Beach site etc. but I think we need to really get support for Sosua Kids going!Mark and Colleen what is needed, I mean really needed, a new school> new materials, school supplies are great but I know that we(hubby and I) really want to make a difference for the kids. Also my local Zellars folks are really asking me lots of questions regarding why we take supplies down when we go. This might be the start of something, not sure yet but perhaps we could make a deal with Zellars for left over school supplies in the fall etc. Thoughts? ??

I would love to take part in something like that but we don't usually go down until late March. Had a great time with the other patrons at the Checkpoint but would love to meet some fellow forum members. I have met Phil and Gregg from Debbie's.

Coppersun, Think it would be a great opportunity. We met several of DDT posters at Checkpoint this January and brought donations for Sousa Kids and Mustard Seed House. We plan on going back in January /07. Love to do 3 weeks/month but no cheap deals. Seems the AI's only offer 1 0r 2 weeks. Look forward to hearing more about it. We stayed at Breezes last trip and plan to again. Love the shuttles to Sousa & Cabarete.

Get your travel agent to check into it for you, we are looking at three weeks next year too. At first we thought one week wasn't enough but after this last trip we have decided that two isn't enough either.

Its amazing how this works isn't it? Seems that the more we travel to the DR, the longer our trips take. You are right Sunny, to extend the stay longer that the regularily scheduled agent trips you do have to book separate. When I spoke with our agent I was telling her that we could not find anything longer that the two week thing. She also stated that we might have to book separately, the only thing was that we probably would not qualify for the little "perks" lol, I asked "what perks?" lol The main perk is just getting back to the DR. I shall post more on this later.

Happy Easter to all of you! Crappy day here on Vancouver Island-again!
Colleen, any info would be great. Really want 3 weeks. Lyle would like to stay at Breezes but open to ideas. Of course $ would come into it. The AI is great as it covers everything. Let me know if you folks come up with any thing. Cat
