Just in case you haven't travelled lately, since September of this year there have been major changes to the types of items you can have in your carry-on baggage, as well as the quantities of liquids, gels and aerosols, and procedures concerning medications and necessary items for babies such as formula. I'm wondering how to bring back my big bottles of Brugal! Travellers from Canada www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca/english/index.shtmlTravellers from USA www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtmMake sure that you bring extra approved clear ziplock-style plastic bags (no more than 1 quart or 1 litre in size) with you in your luggage so that you will have your carry-on liquids, gels and aerosols ready for the security checkpoint when returning to your home country. I don't know how strict the DR airport security folks are about these new rules, but better to be safe than sorry and avoid delays at the airport upon your departure.

Yes this new liquid thing is a worry, however, if you check the stuff in your luggage I don't believe this is a concern then. ONly if you are carrying it one the plane. Not sure about this but am going to do some checking today and will post what I find.

Thanks Colleen. This is a great forum. We'll be heading over to Checkpoint for sure when we're in the DR next month.
Coppersun - These new carry-on baggage restrictions do mean that you won't be allowed to carry much booze back with you on the plane (unless you buy it from the duty-free shops, of course), so you will have to carefully wrap bottles and such in your checked baggage. You also can't have half tubes of toothpaste in your carry-on either, among other silly restrictions. I printed out the list of do's and don'ts and new list of contraband items from the Transport Safety web site above. More crap we have to remember!
I'm definitely going to make sure that I pack my swimsuit, a change of clothes and a small bottle of water, small bottle of sunscreen in my carry-on just in case my luggage gets lost. At least I'll be comfortable on the beach getting nicely toasted while my luggage makes its way to the resort! Always gotta pack for the unexpected.
Apparently, not every airport security checkpoint has the government approved clear ziplock bags, so I'm buying some and packing them in my suitcase, too.

My understanding of the zip lock thingy is that your liguids gels etc, muct not be more than 3 ounce size, and you are allowed one per person. In Canada they will allow you to put a lighter in the bag but in the USA they will not. When we returned from Sosua in September I packed our RUM as I always have in our luggaage and checked it in. I have checked in a case of Presidente and they made it home safe
