Just so everybody knows, if you go Skyservice and are packing more than 22 kilos of stuff, be prepared to take a big hit in your spending money. You'll pay $7.00 CDN for every kilo you're over. On the way down, we had to pay $182 CDN, and on the way back it cost us $92 US. It would have been more had they weighed our carry-on, as you're only allowed 10kg for that. It's the only part of our holiday that sucked. So watch what you pack (ladies..)!

Just think what you would have to pay if you had an ugly sister. Air Transat is worse. Mac

Good news! if you are bringing school supplies to the dr you need to call sky service at 1-888-571-0094 and go to service section, ask for a voucher for over weight luggage. They will check to see what is available on that particular flight. They will send you a voucher that you complete and hand in. This is at NO CHARGE! but it must be used for school or other supplies that you are taking over.

Yes be careful -- we paid $110 CDA going down and $100 US coming home for extra weight. That did not include the school supplies or golf clubs. So be careful. But enjoy.

Another thought about baggage- sporting equipment is still free- so stuff a golf bag with anything else you want to bring and leave the clubs at home- it's free!

Man oh man, its amazing how they do that, I would think that if a service which is related to vacationers you would think that they would try to be accomodating to tourists.

My dad brings down a lot of "humanitarian" stuff every time he comes to Sosua. And by "humanitarian" I am not just referring to the bottles of booze he mules over to Checkpoint.
Anyway...the airlines, Skyservice especially, has always given him a voucher for extra baggage. They did the same for me when I came back after the summer. Just send an email to their customer service and hopefully they will be able to help you out.
With the flights getting full during tourist season though, I don't know if they will have enough room to do this!

Thanks Beena you can also call 1-888-571-0094 which is the customer service number for Sky service. You will need your flight number to give them.

SKY SERVICE EXTRA SCHOOL SUPPLY BAGGAGE VOUCHERS!!
I have just spoken with Sky Service and they have discontinued the vouchers for extra baggage weight for school supplies.
They said that now that most of their planes are landing in Punta Cana first before Puerto Plata, that all their planes are full there fore will not be issuing the vouchers.
They also said to check back in January in case they have changed their policy.
