Hi I can't find much information on the tourist card needed to enter DR. Do I apply for it in England or is it done at DR airport. Thanks Tez

Hi Tezzer, The tourist cards are usually given to you by your travel agent. the new ones are a two part looks kind of like a small credit card that is joined together. They also have bar codes on it. The old tourist cards might be available on the plane but am not sure. Check with your travel agent or air carrier. Coppersun

Hi Tezzar You can apply in advance of your holiday to the Embassy of Dominican Republic in the U.K for Tourist Cards. Travel agents in the Uk do not issue Tourist Cards. We have some details of the Embassy of Dominican Republic in the U.K on our message board on www.sosuadomrep.comCan anyone answer this question? Can you obtain the New style tourist cards from the airports in the Dominican Republic the same way you could obtain the older green style cards? Thanks

hi Sousarep From what I understood from our Travel agent that you could not purchase the new cards, so she was very serious when she said hold on to them and don't loose them. I have not checked this out at all so am just going on what she said. coppersun

coppersun, having had no luck trying to get in touch with The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as they seemed not to answer the phone, i managed to talk with the Dominican Republic Tourist Board. They have assured me that the information supplied on The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland's website is current. www.dominicanembassy.org.uk/Touristcard.htmlWe have a picture of the New Card on the Sosuadomrep homepage. www.sosuadomrep.comSo, it seems we are still able to purchase the tourist cards in advance. They are valid for 30 days on entry in the Dom Rep. If anyone has information to share on the New Tourist cards we look forward to hearing from you. Information correct 25th January 2006

There still seems to be some confusion about the tourist cards. We just came back and this is what is happening. If you have a new tourist card that is great. you still will receive the green cards (old tourist cards) on the plane and you still have to fill them out, then you present your new cards (both parts) and the one you fill out. I am not sure what the big push on the new cards are all about as you still need the old ones as well. The immigrations guys just took them and nothing was said. They were getting tired of people asking for the second half back. Any way on leaving the DR you still have to fill out the BLUE immigration cards after you have checked in the flight service desk, then you go through security and give them your blue cards. In the secure area of the airport you will go through the airport shops then up to the second floor where there is a smoking bar. You will need to find gate 10 ( and this is just a desk not a gate- and pay your $20 US and have your boarding pass stamped. then you can proceed to your correct gate for boarding. I am really not sure why this new tourist card was formatted cause they sure don't use it at this time.

Coppersun
thanks for the info.
We have just received our new cards ready for our visit in May.
You would think the Consulate would send out a leaflet explaining the new cards and why they have changed!
So although we bought our cards in advance (to save time) are we are still having to fill out the old green cards that you say are handed out on the plane journey into the Dom Rep?
Maybe i am too tired but i am a bit confused by this next bit.
Last year we had the old green tourist cards. On entry we handed in the Entry part and kept the Exit part and handed that in when we left.
So what is the Blue Immigration part about? We have never filled one in. I assumed this replaced the green tourist cards alongside the new tourist cards?
Are all tourist cards the same from different countries?
Thanks

We were given the green tourist cards on the plane and the air service staff told us that even though we had the new cards the old green cards were to be filled out, one per person, including any kids. When we got there the immigration people took the green cards and stamped our passports, then as we went through there was a lady who was taking all the new cards. we asked if we got the second half of the cards and she said no that we did not need them. Upon check in when we were leaving we had to pick up the blue cards and fill them out, again one per person. we handed them to the security people before we went through the scanners. So I don't know if it is different for different countries but there was a couple from England in front of us and they had the same thing we did.
I think, and this is just my opinion, its the governments giving the new cards but have forgotten to educate the airport people.
