 Teachers Supplies "Wish List"
« Thread Started on Jan 10, 2007, 8:10am »

For those that are also thinking of the Teacher Kits that Sosua Kids put together for Teaching aids, I have stolen this from another thread to put here:

  • Staplers and staples
  • Rulers
  • Compass Sets
  • 3 Hole punches
  • chalk and chalk board erasers
  • Art supplies such as paint sets, plastercine
  • Stickers
  • Highliters
  • Glue
  • Tape/Tape dispensers
  • Colouring Books
  • Crayons, pens pencils

...and/or anything else you can think of that a teacher would use!
Thanks, folks!

Hi Colleen, I found the link to this site via debbies then via your blog. I am a Secondary School teacher in England and have much of the stuff mentioned above that I and my colleagues would like to donate to your charities. I have already made contact with our travel company and they have offered me an extra luggage allowance for free. ( thanks First Choice ) We dont actually fly out until the end of July so its a while yet but nothing like forward planning! Some of the stuff is new but several things have been used ( staplers, tape dispensers and hole punches in particular) will they still be acceptable? Also, is loose leaf paper of any use as we have managed to get lots of that already! we dont use chalk in school any more but i will gladly purchase that too. please feel free to mail me if there is anything that you think i may be able to get as its still a few months away yet.
hope you all enjoy the mini fiesta today at Checkpoint. looking forward to meeting you in July
kind regards
angie

Hi, I am a teacher in a private school here in Sosua. I teach English to grades 6 to 8. Im not sure if I am allowed to start a kind of 'wish list' but we have very few fiction books for kids in school. I am a book lover and all my kids love to read too and it would improve their language skills 10 fold if i had more books....that being said, if anyone has any old kids books, we would very gratefully accept them!!! My email is clarefo7@hotmail.com if anyone can help me on my mission to improve the levels of english here in Sosua!!

Thanks

Ok, I am looking for lots of fiction books, for example;
- Roald Dahl
- Jacqueline Wilson
- J K Rowling
- Enid Blyton
Literally ANY fiction books. The kids are devouring all of my books. They love Horrid Henry and Kitty books ('It's not Fair') The boys have also showed an interest in adventure stories, so things like Famous Five might be great.

Any non fiction books would come in useful too for that section of my Language Arts class. Again, it doesnt really matter what the topic is as a wider variety of things would be so great.

Poetry books are always useful, especially funny ones such as Revolting Rhymes by Rolad Dahl.

Any newspapers would be appreciated too as we will be making our own class newspapers.

The majority of my kids are girls, so girly books would be good....but I have 4 boys too who arent really interested in my fairy tale books haha.

I am teaching grades 6-8 but I would say their reading level is more like age 10/11 here in UK. Maybe some are slightly more advanced.....hopefully they will be by the time I finish with them.

Again, ANY books are appreciated, whether old or new. I am very grateful for anything!!!

Thank you so much Clare, now my question is where could we leave supplies for you. I know that the Checkpoint Bar is a great meeting place. Perhaps you could talk to Clive or Colleen( when she gets back there) about becoming a drop off point for your supplies. Also Linda at Mel's Tours right beside the Checkpoint Bar might be ok as well. Let us know please. Thanks

Well I have asked at Rocky's bar to collect some stuff, but I could ask Clive aswell I suppose as the location is quite central. I should of asked last night when I was at the Checkpoint Bar! Anyway, thanks to anyone who can help. My 6th grade class especially are just itching to read everyday!! It's frustrating not letting them read as much as they want in case they run out of books!!!

Hi Clare

Even though you didn't manage to ask me the other night [while you were waiting for your boyfriend {Dominican time} ] you are very welcome to use Checkpoint as a drop-off point. Who knows, maybe I could borrow some of the books first and improve my English

Spanky [aka Clive]

p.s. I don't understand what age goes with what 'grade' so what ages are the children in reality [not their reading ability age]
