Breakfast buffet has everything - sausage, coldcuts, cheese, breads, fruit, bacon, ham, eggs several different ways, pancakes, cereals, juices, etc. Hot food items vary a bit every day, but you can always get the basics. Chef also makes great custom omellettes made to your order right there in front of you.

Steak is not always a regular dish at lunch and/or dinner and nothing like T-Bones, filet mignon, prime rib, etc., you might be used to. In the specialty restaurants there were a few dishes containing steak, but it's nothing like going to a regular steakhouse in your home country.

We did have great steak dinners at La Finca and Bailey's just down the street from the Casa Marina Reef entrance. The front desk can point you in the right direction. Two steak meals with peppercorn sauce, your choice of potato/rice, veggies and salad/salad bar, including a couple of Presidente each, two cappuccinos, dessert and tip was less than $50 USD total at Baileys.

La Finca was very reasonably priced, too, although we drank a full bottle of wine before our meals were brought to us. Service at both restaurants was very good. When you want to pay the bill, you have to ask for it. No one makes you feel rushed. So enjoy the atmosphere and the food.

Lots of restaurants off resort to choose from if you want a truly great steak dinner http://www.sosuadomrep.com/Restaurants_Bars_Discos.htm

Also, La Roca has an excellent reputation for seafood and steak, but we never got there this time round.

Right next door to Casa Marina Beach area is Joseph's Grill and Grape, on the Sosua by the Sea resort property. You can make reservations at the resort's reception desk. We stayed at this resort recently and the food was very good, although we didn't do Joseph's since we had the all-inclusive plan. walk along the Casa Marina beach, up the stairs and you'll see the blue cabanas. Ask at the outdoor bar/restaurant for directions to the reception area to make a reservation. A bit pricey, but great food prepared right there, beautiful setting. http://www.sosuadomrep.com/josephsgrillgrape/index.htm

On the Casa Marina Reef side of the property there is the Waterfront Restaurant and Hotel. You can also make reservations there, and again, a bit pricey, but beautiful setting for a quiet dinner. You can always ask to see menus before deciding where to eat. Most restaurants do post their menus even when they are closed.

If I might add, my favorite restaurant in Sosua is the Morua Moi ( spelling??) the lobster thermadore is to die for. The hubby has had the steak, tender but not like Alberta or Canadian beef. the beef in the DR we find has a different taste and is on the tough side. I believe the cattle are fed corn and this is why the difference in taste. This restaurant is found right across the street from Rubi's, and down the block from the Checkpoint. Great food and very reasonably prices.

Like Kool has written the buffets and al la carte restaurants on Casa beach and reef are very good. We eat alot at the buffets and they change the menu daily. Breaky is usually pretty much the same but who eats breakky lol just kidding. I think you will find there is a good variety in Sosua if you are eating out. A great salad bar is at Bailey's just down the street from the Casa Marina Reef enterance. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, we never got to Morai Mau or Ruby's either. I'm looking at possibly a late February/early March trip back to Sosua, keep your fingers crossed! We also found the steak generally served in all-inclusives pretty tough, but our favourite by far is the steak with peppercorn sauce served at Casa Marina once or twice a week. Off resort, we found that Bailey's and La Finca were great, as well as great prices and service.

We had steak one night in the Jalapenos seafood restaurant at the resort (I think it was on the cash only menu that you pay for separately) and it was quite good. If you like wine, it will cost you extra to get the real stuff, not the house wine. We spent an average of $20 USD for wine at dinner on the resort from the cash bar menu. Not a bad selection. We found the house wines to be quite vinegary.

Hey koolkat, make your trip late February as most of us are going home on March 3rd or 4th! We may need a fifth for our pineapple thing (when we find out what exactly that is anyway???) and you could be her!

Hey missing, will will miss you again, darn it!

HMM pineapple thing............ sounds good.

The only renos that I am aware of is some of the buildings, like building 1, 2, 3, have been painted inside the rooms and have heard rumors that the main beach has been washed away and the Seafood restaurant was moved back to where the little bar was, but have not had this confirms. BUT will be checking it out in just two sleeps.. Yipeeeeeeeeeeee! 8-)
